How can I apply to Opportunity Central?Opportunity Central does not receive student applications. The purpose of this website is to provide information about all the great organisations that already exist to support students from BAME and/or low socio-economic backgrounds and encourage you to apply directly to them. In order to maximise your chances of success as well as navigate your time at university well, we would strongly advise you take time to go through the industry page you are interested in and do your research about the organisations we flag and how they can help you. We do run a leadership programme for society leaders so if you run a society that serves predominantly those from BAME backgrounds or low socio-economic backgrounds, do get in touch if you would like your society to benefit from it. When should I start applying for career related opportunities? In today’s competitive graduate market, it’s important to start thinking about your career as soon as you enter university. Even if you don’t know what you want to do, it’s advisable that you try and get exposure to different industries so that you can make an informed decision. Many Graduate Employers will host insight days and networking events that will help you gain a better understanding of what they do. Where relevant, you should also try and apply to complete work experience or internships at some of these firms. If you have not started university yet (year 12 and 13), you should explore the Industry Catalogue as there are increasingly more programmes and initiatives designed for those at pre-university level. Just be proactive and try lots of different things! Attending events is also a great way to meet like-minded people

Who is Opportunity Central for? This website is an online resource for BAME students at university across the U.K. There are a lot of organisations designed to help you break into certain industries and this website seeks to disseminate this information in an efficient way. Where relevant, there is also information on organisations that run programmes targeting those at pre-university level (GCSE and A-Level). Many of these organisations will also support students from low-socio economic backgrounds (i.e. social mobility qualifying). This resource is also for parents who want to come alongside their child in their career journey and encourage them to seize opportunities available to them.

There are other useful organisations that help BAME students not flagged in the Industry Catalogue, how can this be included?"If there is information on more organisations that support BAME students that are not currently listed in the Industry Catalogue, please notify us by e-mail (info@opportunitycentral.co.uk). Please ensure you name the organisation together with the link to their website. This information will be reviewed and its relevance verified and added accordingly.
